Payment Function on Split Check Screen

I'm trying to figure out a faster way to take payment on a check that has been split.
In Quick Service, I know we can't split a check for some reason. Quick Service restaurants take call in orders that can be larger and be for more than one person. Often when the person who comes in the pay for the order, items need to be split off of the order that was called in because various people are paying for their individual items with their card or with cash and expect change back for just their items.
So, the work around is to enter the order as a Bar Tab (or however it's been renamed). We can split items off the original order to a check which can then be paid. However, it's really cumbersome to have to Save and Close the split check then go to the list of checks and then take a payment.
We need a payment function on the Split Check screen to facilitate this much needed Quick Service operation.
Is there a better way?
