Partial Refund

Rich C. 3 years ago in POS updated by Ryan Nicley 3 years ago 5

We would like to partially refund a check after it has been paid. For example, a check contains a pizza and a burger. The check is paid. But now we need to void the burger. Square for Restuarants, Revel, and Lightspeed all have this feature. It is normal and an essential feature in a restaurant POS. I can't understand why it's missing from Linga.

I believe this is available but maybe I'm missing something. What are you trying or running into? How are you trying to do the refund for a single item.

Hi Ryan - I thought I was missing something, too. But my rep said it's not possible and that I needed to submit it as a request:

"I just confirmed, we cannot void the menu item after payment (before closing the day). The refund will be provided fully after selecting "Delete" option...I would suggest you put a feature request from your end. And I will forward this to the dedicated team as well."

Here is the process: customer orders several items (pizza, burger, fries). He pays for them. All this is before closing the day. Customer then changes his mind about the fries and we we are happy to cancel that item and refund him for _only_ that item. Remember, he has already paid, whether the order has or has not been sent to the kitchen.

So it turns out we can't do that. We can only refund the entire order:

Check Status > Closed > Select Check, reopen order, open Payment, select payment from the "Success" area bottom left, hit Delete, hit Exit, then hit Void and enter a reason.

Refunding a paid-for item and not the whole check is basic in the other POS I have used. But it's missing from Linga.

Yes, now I see what you mean. This also comes into play when you do a Split By Seat and one seat pays their check. After that, you are limited to what you can do with the other seats (void...) due to the payment being already on the check. You have to delete the payment to make changes.

I have posted that as a feature request before and this seems related.

It would be nice to be able to void and item and then adjust the payment amount accordingly.

Agreed (and yes, I read your posts from a year ago on Split by Seat).

Like I said above, other POS, like Square, can do this. So I don't understand why Linga cannot. I hope their developers are reading this discussion and intend to do something about it. They bill themselves as a restaurant OS, but can't do something basic and taken for granted in other POS.

I hope so too. I know they are continuing to make progress and improvements and the more feedback and ideas we provide, the better.
